About four years ago I set out to create a new artistic technique. Something that would draw people in, and hold them there fascinated.
I wanted something three dimensional, while still playing on the borderline of a classical oil painting. Something that reflected the current advances in digital media, but was in no way
a slave to it or in anyway looked computery. Something that made new advances in the area of dimension and color and in the end just looked cool.
What I came up with was a surreal photo collage printed on large transparencies, separated into 5 layers (foreground = layer 1, background = layer 5, middle ground though out layers 2-4).
Each layer is then hand painted with translucent fluorescent paint. The whole thing is then mounted in an elegant frame containing both white lights, and black lights. The black light is
the secret to the color. The trick is to get the fluorescent paint to actually back light the transparent printing as it is hit by the Ultraviolet black light, and do to this in 3D. I call
the whole technique 3DUV (Three Dimensional Ultraviolet) and it dazzles the eyes, confounds the imagination.
Furthermore this technique can be expanded to the use of LCD-like screens and display Three Dimensional video. U.S. Patent # 6,720, 961,
Method and Apparatus for Displaying an Image in Three Dimensions has recently been awarded by the U.S. Government to the artist and creator, myself, T. Michael Tracy. LEARN MORE »
I currently reside in Uxbridge, MA and am pursuing avenues to place the paintings in various galleries and museums, and develop the patent into an indispensable medical imaging device.
