Presented by the RISD/Boston Alumni Club and The Arlington Center for the Arts, Arlington, MA
A juried exhibition of small works, inch x inch featured the work of RISD alumni from the Greater Boston Area and Beyond. The exhibition was held November 18, 2002 through January 3, 2003 at
the Arlington Center for the Arts' Gibbs Gallery in Arlington, Massachusetts. All work on view was no larger than 12 inches in any direction (including frame).
The exhibition was organized by Boston area alumni. A call for entries was mailed to all eligible alumni living in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. Over 90 artists submitted
slides of their work. All work was juried by Barbara O'Brien (MFA '90 PHOTO), Regional Review Coordinator for Art New England and Bob Oppenheim (BFA '65 PAINT), Director of the Trustman Art Gallery
and Professor of Art at Simmons College, Boston, MA. The artworks of 46 artists were chosen, and almost every discipline of study at RISD was represented. The 83 works on view included jewelry,
sculpture, painting, photography and printmaking. A free lecture, In the Palm of My Hand, was presented on the evening of December 5, 2002 in conjunction with the exhibit.
The show was well receivedthe opening reception attracted approximately 200 guests, and people continued to visit the show throughout its 7 week run. In order to share inch x inch with an
even larger audience, we decided to create this online version. Each artist is represented by one image. Many of the works are for sale, and if you would like to make an inquiry concerning a work
or an artist please email inchxinch@risdboston.org
